Sonja Pruitt-Lord, Ph.D.

Photo: Sonja Pruitt-Lord, Ph.D.Speech Language Pathology Coordinator Sonja Pruitt-Lord, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences, Director of the M.A. Program in Speech and Language Pathology, and Speech-Language Division Head. She has served as PI on both federal and local grants, including continuous awards since 2011 to support her work with DL/ EL at our partner site, Rosa Parks, and several major NIH grants.

Dr. Pruitt-Lord’s research is in the areas of child language acquisition and disorders within the context of cultural and linguistic diversity. She has co-authored numerous professional articles and presented at state, national and international conferences. Pruitt-Lord brings a strong history of school partnerships and transdisciplinary research to the project.

She is past Associate Editor of Language, Speech, Hearing Services in the Schools, and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research. She has an established publication record in issues related to diagnosing language impairments in culturally and linguistically diverse populations, including significant research with DL/ EL and other CLD Learners. She has a strong history of student mentorship and has been recognized by students with 7 awards as Outstanding Faculty.
