The Crown Act

CFD Professor Idara Essien and VP of Campus Affairs and Student Diversity, Professor Luke Wood, have published an article, "I Love My Hair."

We are celebrating this work in light of the recent passing in Congress of The Crown Act.

Congratulations to Drs. Essien and Wood on this timely and impactful work.

In honor of the House passing the CROWN ACT, we are sharing the article "I Love My Hair" which was inspired by the Sesame Street song by the same name. The CROWN ACT stands for Creating Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act. "The bill passed along party lines with a vote of 235-189. The bill now heads to the Senate for a vote" (NPR, 2022).

"For too long, Black girls have been discriminated against and criminalized for the hair that grows on our heads and the way we move through and show up in this world," Rep. Ayanna Pressley
