Unique Focus or Emphasis
This cohort focuses on performance subject areas, such as Music and Physical Education.
Those students earning an English (including Theatre), Social Science, or Art credentials
who plan on using students’ performance (acting, debate, etc.) as a significant part
of their pedagogy are also encouraged to choose this block.
Location of Courses
All courses, with the exception of Physical Education methods courses, will meet on
the campus of SDSU. Methods courses for Physical Education will meet at a school in
close proximity to SDSU, where students will learn to use facilities associated with
various sports.
Locations of Student Teaching
Student teaching will occur throughout San Diego County wherever excellent teachers
who engage their students in performance-based education are located.
Days/times (approx. schedule) of Courses
Coursework is held Mondays through Thursdays in the late afternoons (4:00 - 6:40)
and early evenings (7:00 - 9:40).
Days/times (approx. schedule) of Student Teaching
First semester, student teachers spend approximately 15 hours a week at their assigned
school site, and must be available for student teaching between the hours of 7:30
AM and 3:30 PM. During the second semester, student teachers spend approximately 25
hours a week at their assigned school site between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
In addition, student teachers may support extra rehearsals/practices and performances/competitions
of their students, which may occur after school and on weekends.
