There are various ways a student can become involved and gain experience in the education field. Listed below are paid and volunteer student engagement opportunities such as clubs, organizations, and tutoring programs.

Pathways Service Learning Tutoring Program

The SDSU Pathways Program trains students to become tutors at a local elementary, middle, or high school. They strive to provide professional development seminars, community building, networking with field professionals, field experience in K-12 classrooms, and reciprocal service learning. Students can earn either college credit or pay while being a part of this program.

The A.M.A.N.I. Project

The A.M.A.N.I. Project is based on the five key tenets of Affirming, Mentoring, Actualizing, Nurturing, and Imagining a limitless future for young Black scholars. This project aims to provide racial identity development and academic and creative support to Black students attending predominantly white elementary schools in San Diego through mentorship by Black students from SDSU.

Substitute Teaching

The Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit authorizes prospective teachers to serve as a day-to-day substitute teacher in any classroom, including preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-12 inclusive, or in classes organized primarily for adults.
