Project PERSPECTIVES Scholarship

About Project PERSPECTIVES

Supported by the US Department of Personnel Preparation (OSEP), PERSPECTIVES aims to prepare candidates from diverse backgrounds, including multilingual to:

  • obtain the knowledge and skills to work effectively with young children with disabilities
  • effectively engage with the community, and
  • implement culturally-responsive and evidence-based strategies.

Financial Support Includes

  • CA resident tuition support
  • $1500 stipend per semester (minimum)
  • Professional development

Pathways, Eligibility and How to Apply

San Diego State University provides 2 pathways for Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Preparation:

  1. Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for undergraduates offers the Early Childhood Special Education Preliminary Teaching Credential within a Child and Family Development bachelor's degree
  2. 5th-year credential program for post-bachelor students

Project PERSPECTIVES supports students in both pathways.

 

Pathway 1: Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for Undergraduates

Credentials Earned
  • B.A. degree in Child Development
  • California Preliminary Teaching Credential for early childhood special education (birth through kindergarten) for working with children with disabilities
Eligibility for the Project PERSPECTIVES
  • Being bilingual or having an interest in working with young children with disabilities, including those who are bilingual
  • SDSU Child Development Major students with an ITEP emphasis
  • Transfer students from community colleges interested in an ITEP emphasis
  • Application to the ITEP program OPEN NOW; Priority Deadline: March 1
  • 2.7 GPA
  • Interview

  • Complete the Google Form to indicate interest in the Perspective Scholarship
