Bio

Briana L. Boyd, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in San Diego, California. Dr. Boyd received her B.A. in psychology at Humboldt State University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She completed her clinical internship at Harvard Medical School where she specialized in treating severe psychopathology on the psychiatric inpatient unit, substance abuse disorders in residential and outpatient facilities, and rehabilitation psychology with individuals living with spinal cord injuries. Dr. Boyd completed her postdoctoral training at the Institute of Living, Hartford Hospital with a specialization in assessment and diagnosis.

Clinical Specialities:

Dr. Boyd then moved to San Diego for a position at University of California, San Diego, UCSD Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). At UCSD CAPS, Dr. Boyd provided psychotherapy for students with an emphasis on multicultural counseling. She also engaged in outreach services to a diverse college population, specializing in outreach and treatment of African-American and multi-racial, multi-ethnic students. Dr. Boyd acted as the UCSD CAPS consultant/liaison for campus-wide multicultural initiatives, providing education and trainings for administration, faculty and staff. Dr. Boyd was appointed to the University of California, San Diego Council on Climate, Equity, and Inclusion to advise the Chancellor on related policies and programs in an effort to improve campus climate for underrepresented students. Dr. Boyd is currently employed at Veterans Medical Research Foundation, where she develops innovative psychotherapy interventions for Veterans with comorbid Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). In addition to the development of the treatment protocol, Dr. Boyd administers the treatment to all Veterans enrolled in the study.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Boyd is an adjunct faculty member at San Diego State University where she teaches graduate courses on multicultural trauma and Crisis Intervention as well as undergraduate courses on Stress Management in the Counseling and School Psychology department. Dr. Boyd is a psychological consultant and expert witness for legal proceedings in the area of combat related PTSD and has a thriving private practice. Dr. Boyd was recently featured in SAGE Publications online video training series demonstrating the treatment of PTSD and panic disorder. In her spare time, Dr. Boyd enjoys traveling with her partner.
