Undergraduate Programs

 

The College of Education offers a variety of undergraduate programs in the areas of education, child development, counseling, cultural proficiency, and leadership development. Depending on your status and future goals, you may need to apply to a specific undergraduate major, pre-major, or minor. It is important to learn about the different programs and find the one that is right for you.

Majors

  • Child Development, Bachelor of Science (B.S.): A hands-on, experience-based major that prepares you to become an early childhood educator and professionals who work directly with children and families in schools and communities.
  • Leadership Studies, Bachelor of Science (B.S.): A multidisciplinary major that includes courses in psychology, communication, education, business, public administration, philosophy, political science, journalism and media studies, and cultural diversity.
  • Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.): An interdisciplinary major that offers a broad undergraduate experience in language arts, natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, visual and performing arts, and social sciences.

Minors

  • Accelerated Curriculum for Educators (ACE): An accelerated pathway for students enrolled in specific majors to earn their undergraduate degree and teaching credential in four years.
  • Child Development: A minor that builds on our department’s mission to prepare anti-racist, anti-bias professionals to address contemporary issues that affect the development, health, and well-being of children, youth, adults, families, and communities.
  • Counseling and Social Change: A minor that provides students the tools to seek change in diverse social contexts.
  • Cultural Proficiency: A unique opportunity for SDSU undergraduate students across colleges and degrees to design a personalized experience around cultural proficiency practices.
  • Leadership Studies: A multidisciplinary program offering students both an in-depth look at leadership theory and opportunities to enact it in practice.
  • Special Education: A minor designed to support students who are interested in pursuing careers that involve individuals with disabilities by providing essential background information on the population, education, legislation, and societal factors related to equity and inclusion that impact individuals with disabilities.
