PK-12 Educational Leadership
M.A. with Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Option
Program Overview
The M.A. in Educational Leadership Program is designed for school administrators and teachers who aspire to a leadership role in PK-12 education. The program requires students to complete coursework for the administrative credential, plus 9 additional units related to research and the completion of an action research project. This project replaces the traditional thesis paper required for most M.A. degree programs.
Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Option
The Credential option is available to students who apply to the MA/Credential program and meet the admission requirements for the preliminary administrative services credential.
Cohort & Coursework
Students are admitted in cohort groups (including both master's and credential-only students) each summer. Each cohort includes approximately 20-30 students, all of whom are working professionals in public or private schools or other educational settings. Coursework leading towards the preliminary administrative services credential is completed over 3 semesters (summer, fall, and spring). Master's degree students will complete 9 additional units over 2 additional semesters (the summer between years 1 and 2 and the fall semester of the 2nd year).
Class meetings
Classes are held one evening each week and, in most cases, are offered off-campus at educational facilities accessible via major freeways.
Handbook
The M.A./Credential Handbook includes details on degree requirements, student performance expectations, the candidate appeal process, the comprehensive oral examination, and more.
