Another year, another accolade. For the third year in a row, the San Diego State University College of Education has achieved its highest-ever ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

SDSU is now tied at No. 45 in the publication’s 2025 Best Graduate Education Schools rankings, released late Monday. That’s up three spots from the previous year, four spots from 2023 and 10 spots from 2022.

“This milestone moment for our college comes at a challenging time in higher education, with growing political debate and uncertainty about state and federal funding,” said Y. Barry Chung, Dean of the College of Education. “In light of these challenges, I would like to thank all our students, faculty and staff who roll up their sleeves and make a difference for children, families and communities every day.”

Home to one school, six departments and more than 2,500 degree- and credential-seeking students, the SDSU College of Education remains the highest-ranked producer of educators and wellness professionals in San Diego County and the California State University system.

During the 2023-24 academic year, the College of Education secured more than $30 million in grant funding to support research, training and community programs. Meanwhile, the college’s devoted community of supporters donated $10.5 million in philanthropic gifts.

The college also ranks:

  • No. 6 in the state of California
  • No. 10 in the Western U.S.
  • No. 35 among public universities nationwide

Additionally, SDSU’s Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling now ranks No. 7 in the Best Rehabilitation Counseling Programs category. SDSU also placed No. 3 in Online Master’s in Education Programs, a ranking released earlier this year.

“I am grateful to our national colleagues in the education field for their support and recognition of San Diego State’s excellence,” Chung said. “While this excellence is hardly new, our growing reputation among our peers has propelled us to new heights on the rankings over the past few years.”
