VIDEO: CCLEAD doctoral students find their voice via counterstory podcasting

Last semester, doctoral students in San Diego State University's Ed.D. with a concentration in Community College Leadership (CCLEAD) traded the classroom for the podcasting studio as they focused a critical lens on the history of higher education.

It was all part of a course that has been taught for many years by Tanya Gaxiola Serrano, associate professor in the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education. But this year she added a new wrinkle. Bringing together a critical race counterstory methodology and recording resources from the SDSU Digital Humanities Center, student teams brought challenging and relevant topics to light using professional recording and editing equipment.

Gaxiola Serrano has collected those recordings into a public-facing podcast titled "Resisting Erasure: Critical Race Counterstories of Higher Education" in hopes of spreading knowledge and discourse beyond her course. You can listen now!
