Common Standard 2 – Candidate Recruitment and Support
The education unit accepts applicants for its educator preparation programs based on clear criteria that include multiple measures of candidate qualifications.
------------------------------------
All of our admissions criteria for credential programs is available on our website. Our Preadmission Support Specialist works with prospective candidates to help them understand all of the program requirements including, but not limited to, SMC and prerequisite courses. Applicants apply through CalState Apply and each credential program has a supplemental application for credential specific information such as the Certificate of Clearance, evidence of negative TB tests, letters of recommendation, etc. Our Admissions Analyst/Specialist reviews all applications to ensure that they are complete before passing them on to faculty for review. Program faculty make the final admissions determination.
The education unit purposefully recruits and admits candidates to diversify the educator pool in California and provides the support, advice, and assistance to promote their successful entry and retention in the profession. The institution actively involves faculty, instructional personnel, and relevant stakeholders in the organization, coordination, and decision making for all educator preparation programs.
